CO2Fit signs up to be an event sponsor for Run Like a Girl in Richmond, Virginia. The 4 mile race will take place on October 13th to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
Richmond, Virginia (PRWEB) September 24, 2013
CO2Fit, a premier fitness and wellness business, will be sponsoring the Run Like a Girl 4 -mile race this October. The 4-mile race is organized by Run Like a Girl (RLaG) to help raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
The women-only 4 mile race will be held at 9 AM on Sunday, October 13, at West Creek, located at 12580 West Creek Parkway, Richmond, Virginia. Proceeds from the event will benefit Health Empowerment Research and Awareness Foundation (HERA), a non-profit that supports ovarian cancer research.
“As a woman-owned business and with many female clients, supporting this cause specific to women is very important to me to help spread the word,” said Seo Kelleher, founder and owner of CO2Fit.
Originally organized in memory of the race’s director Mark Junkermann’s mother who passed away from ovarian cancer, RLaG hopes the race will continue to increase awareness about the silent killer to increase early detection and survival rate. The race’s ambassador, Gina Louise Junkermann, explained ovarian cancer is often regarded as the silent killer because women often do not recognize the symptoms.
“We love having sponsors such as CO2Fit promoting health and wellness in our community. Learning about symptoms can help save lives,” said Junkermann.
CO2Fit previously formed a team for the RLaG June race and has already set up a group for next month’s race. Any woman can join the October CO2Fit team by signing up under “Join Existing Team” on the RLaG website.
“We formed CO2 Fit team for the June race and had amazing time with a big group of ladies from first-time run/jog/walker to seasoned racerunners. We trained together, shared nutrition tips and had our own party tent at the race day. RLaG has such a unique supportive fun energy that must come from being one of the largest all-women races in the area,” said Kelleher.
Runners can participate individually or as a team and are encouraged to participate in fundraising with assistance from HERA. Awards will be given to both the largest and the most spirited teams, along with top competitors from each group.
The entry fee is $35 through race day. To register for the race online or for more information, visit http://www.runlikeagirl8k.com or http://www.co2fit.com.
