“Business opens in Jackson Ward with City assistance”
Mayor Dwight C. Jones and the Honorable Ellen Robertson, City Council Vice President, 6th District, along with members of the City Administration will join in celebrating the grand opening of Sweetopia on Friday, May 2 at 2 p.m. Sweetopia is opening at 221 East Clay Street, in historic Jackson Ward, with financial assistance from the City’s Department of Economic and Community Development’s Commercial Area Revitalization Effort (CARE) Program and Enterprise Zone Program.
Jamyce Vinson, owner of Sweetopia, has a Masters Degree in Business Administration. She chose to open Sweetopia to apply her skills in an enjoyable manner by opening a bakery in historic Jackson Ward. As an African American, she is proud to be a part of the revitalization of the neighborhood.
Sweetopia specialties include gigantic gourmet cookies, carrot cake, apple turnovers and sweet potato pie. The bake shop and coffee house also specializes in old fashion desserts that will bring back sweet memories for customers. Sweetopia is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
