Sunday, Nov. 1, marks the end of daylight savings time. When you change your clocks this weekend, please remember to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Changing smoke alarm batteries at least twice a year, testing those alarms monthly and reminding your friends and family to do the same are the most effective ways to reduce fire related injuries and deaths. The most commonly cited cause of non-working smoke alarms continues to be worn out or missing batteries. Having dual sensor smoke alarms with both ionization and photo electric technology is the best way to alert people to all types of home fires.

The Richmond Fire Department wants to make sure that all Metro Richmond residents change the batteries in their smoke alarms this weekend when they change their clocks. Any city resident that requires assistance with their smoke alarm can call (804) 646-2500.
