The city’s eighth annual “Bring One for the Chipper” Christmas tree recycling event is scheduled for Saturday, January 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1710 Robin Hood Road (northeast corner of Robin Hood Road and North Boulevard).
The Department of Public Works will collect trees curbside through January 18 for residents who contact the City’s 3-1-1 Call Center. Residents should place the trees by their supercan, though they may not be picked up on regular trash collection days because a separate truck is needed to collect them.
Trees also can be taken to the East Richmond Road Convenience Center at 3800 East Richmond Road; Hopkins Road Transfer Station at 3520 North Hopkins Road; and the open area behind RVA Financial Credit Union on Robin Hood Road.
During the event residents also can drop off small electronic items, such as printers, monitors, radios and microwave ovens. They also can get up to five boxes of documents shredded on-site.
Depending on the size, the fee to dispose of televisions is $12 for LCD, $23 for CRT, up to 27 inches and $30 for CRT larger than 27 inches. There is no charge for all other items.
