– Dominion sponsoring Richmond Christmas Parade for fourth year

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Dominion Richmond Christmas Parade will kick off on Broad Street at 10 a.m. Dec. 7, and Santa is hoping to see everyone who has the holiday spirit.
This year’s theme: “Diamond Jubilee,” is a nod toward the parade’s 30th anniversary. Of course, diamonds will be accepted as parade entry fees, but only if they are larger than 1.5 carats!
Each year, the beloved Richmond parade showcases statewide talent, including high school and college marching bands, dance troupes, colorful floats, large helium balloons and more, as well as international personalities such as the famed Harlem Globetrotters and Santa Claus himself. Both the Globetrotters and Legendary Santa have confirmed their appearances for this year.
Local high school and college marching bands, businesses, associations, and community groups that wish to be considered for participation should submit an application by Nov. 1. Additional information about participating in the parade is available online at
“Since this is our 30th consecutive year, we hope everyone in town will come out and enjoy all the fun and joy that marks the parade every year,” said Robert Kelly, parade chairman. “The parade is the official start of the Christmas season in Richmond. What better way is there to get in the happy, festive mood of the season?”
Every year, thousands of Richmonders come out in the crisp early December morning air to enjoy the colorful spectacle of the parade, see Santa and kick off the holiday season. The Science Museum of Virginia, a key partner in the parade, will host the judging stand and special VIP seating and video area.
This is the fourth year Dominion has sponsored the Christmas Parade. More than 100,000 people normally attend the annual event, which starts at the Science Museum on Broad Street at 10 a.m. and travels eastward along Broad to 7th Street.
