Duggars Call on McAuliffe to drop out of race and apologize

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Oct. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — This afternoon Terry McAuliffe’s campaign called on the Duggar family to “leave Virginia.”

This week, Family Research Council Action (FRC Action) and the entire Duggar family of the hit TLC reality TV series “19 Kids and Counting” have joined together for a Values Bus Tour across the Commonwealth of Virginia mobilizing voters in support of Ken Cuccinelli for governor, E.W. Jackson for lieutenant governor and Mark Obenshain for attorney general.

At a news conference in Richmond, Jim Bob Duggar called on Terry McAuliffe to drop out of the race after news broke that he had received profit from an elaborate scheme that exploited senior citizens and terminally ill patients. For every dollar that Terry McAuliffe invested, he received over two dollars in return in a short period of time. The scam offered a few hundred dollars for a terminally ill person to buy a life insurance annuity policy with all the benefits at death going to Terry McAuliffe and his fellow investors. Terry McAuliffe has still not repaid those families of the terminally ill patients who have already died; their families should have received the death benefits instead of him. He also failed to disclose the secret investment until investigators found out about it which was a violation of ethics laws.

Josh Duggar, FRC Action’s Executive Director released the following statement:

“We are incredulous that a candidate for public office in the United States of America would employ tactics to silence someone who disagrees with him. Asking someone to leave the state because they are supporting your opponent is unbelievably offensive. This latest tactic is an example of the way Terry McAuliffe handles people who disagree with him. The school yard bullying and rude statements he’s making today won’t sit well with Virginia voters. He is trying to distract from the news of his investment in an elaborate scheme to rip-off senior citizens and terminally-ill patients, where he raked in thousands of dollars from bereaving families. This man has never been elected to any public office and he definitely isn’t fit to serve,” concluded Duggar.

Jim Bob Duggar released the following statement in response to McAuliffe’s request that the family leave the state:

“It’s unbelievable that Terry McAuliffe is requesting that my family ‘leave Virginia’ when we are exercising our freedom of speech. Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has been an advocate for families and our values for many years. His immature request for those who are helping his opponent’s campaign shows that he is desperate to distract from the scandal of how he defrauded the loved ones of terminally ill patients. Terry McAuliffe is upset that we are from out of state. Well, so is he. McAuliffe should simply let the voters decide rather than bullying my family out the state.

“We are asking that Terry McAuliffe drop out of the race immediately because he is unfit for any public office. Terry McAuliffe has responded by asking that we leave the state. We say, ‘You go first.'”
