The Science Museum of Virginia unveils the most technologically advanced digital Dome theater in the world. The Dome has been upgraded with a new state of the art Nanoseam™ screen and projectors capable of high definition ten times the power of a home theater system.
New Cosmic Expeditions will allow guests to travel the full expanse of the cosmos — from the creation of the universe to cataclysmic forces throughout the galaxies that are truly mesmerizing. Whether it’s a wild ride through the thick atmosphere of Venus, dodging solar flares around the Sun or taking a trip to the Cat’s Eye Nebula, guests will interact with the cosmos in a truly spectacular fashion.
“The Dome will bring parts of the known universe – places that until now we could barely imagine – to life for our guests,” said Richard C. Conti, CEO/Chief Wonder Officer, Science Museum of Virginia.
The Dome seamlessly allows adventurers of all ages to travel the universe, swim with Great White Sharks and migrate with millions of Monarch Butterflies — without leaving their seats!
The transformation of The Dome is a flagship experience in the Museum’s $60 million Inspire the World capital campaign.
The Dome opens Saturday, March 15, 2014, with the Cosmic Expedition Wildest Weather in the Solar System and Great White Shark.
