RICHMOND, VA (PRWEB) DECEMBER 14, 2015
BrainTrain has announced the release of the IVA-QS (Quick Screen), a new computerized visual and auditory continuous performance test that can be administered in just 8 minutes.
The IVA-QS test is designed to aid clinicians in screening children, adolescents, and adults for the ADHD symptoms of inattention and impulsivity. The test can be conveniently taken out “into the field” and administered using a laptop, iPad or iPhone. ADHD symptoms are evaluated by requiring test takers to click only when they see or hear the number 1 and not when the number 2 is presented. While this task appears to be relatively simple, the test either speaks or shows a number every second and a half, requiring that the test-taker make 300 click/no click decisions during the 8 minutes of testing. The test results are automatically scored and reports are prepared that provide health care professionals with objective data about a client’s ability to pay careful attention and not react impulsively. In addition to the computerized CPT, the IVA-QS provides free self-scoring, online Parent and Teacher Rating Scales for children and Self Rating scales for adults with each test administration. These Rating Scales may be completed and submitted online using any tablet, smartphone, or computer with internet access. Test scores combined with the rating scales offer a quick and easy method for psychologists, schools, pediatricians, and other health care professionals to screen ADHD symptoms.
As reported by the Center for Disease Control in 2015, over 11% of children have ADHD, but only about half of these individuals are ever identified or receive help for their disorder. While no single test can be used to definitively diagnosis ADHD, the IVA-QS can help clinicians screen individuals with attention problems for further evaluation. When used in combination with its built-in rating scales, the IVA-QS was found to be 87% accurate in matching the diagnosis of ADHD, based on a comprehensive clinical evaluation in accordance with DSM-5 guidelines.
According to Dr. Joseph A. Sandford, clinical psychologist and president of BrainTrain, Inc., “The IVA-QS can be a big time-saver for many professionals faced with the challenge of identifying individuals with attention deficits and impulse control problems. It is a perfect clinical tool for school psychologists or pediatricians. Even though it is relatively short, it is remarkably accurate, having a high rate of comparative accuracy with the longer, more complex IVA-2. The fact that it can be transported offsite and administered using the iPad is a real plus.”
