Applications are currently being accepted for the Richmond Tree Stewards 10-week training session that will begin on January 10, 2017. The training sessions take place every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Round House in Byrd Park at 600 South Boulevard. There is also one Saturday hands-on pruning class.
Throughout the course, students will learn a variety of ways to plant and maintain trees. The classes are taught by tree biology, watershed ecology and planting experts. The City’s certified arborist will also teach sessions.
In addition to completing the course, students wishing to become a certified Tree Steward will be required to:
Complete 20 volunteer hours working with experienced stewards, including 10 hours of pruning
Successfully complete a tree pruning exam
Propose and complete one project
The online application is available at: http://richmondtreestewards.org/. The deadline for application submission is November 26. The 30 applicants who are accepted will be notified on December 1. The class fee of $120 is due on December 30.
