The City of Richmond’s Office of the General Registrar reminds residents of the following deadlines related to the upcoming General and Special Elections that will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The upcoming elections are for U.S. President and Vice President, U.S. House of Representatives, Two Constitutional Amendments, Mayor, City Council and School Board. Approaching deadlines include:
October 17, 2016 – Deadline to Register to Vote in this Election
November 1, 2016 – Deadline to Apply for an Absentee Ballot through the mail
November 5, 2016 – Deadline to Apply and Vote an Absentee Ballot in person
The Office of the General Registrar will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday October 29, 2016, and Saturday, November 5, 2016, for absentee voting.
Residents are reminded that a photo ID is now required to vote in person. Acceptable forms of voter identification include:
Valid Virginia driver’s license
Valid United States passport
Voter photo identification card issued by the Department of Elections
Identification card issued by the federal government, the Commonwealth of Virginia, or one of its political subdivisions
Valid student photo identification card from a school, college, or university located in Virginia
Valid employee identification card issued in the normal course of business
If you do not possess acceptable identification, a temporary ID may be made for you at your local General Registrar’s office. The City of Richmond General Registrar’s office is located at City Hall, 900 E. Broad Street, Room 105.
If you have questions or require more information about your voting rights, you may contact the General Registrar’s office at 646-5950. Normal office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.
