The city of Richmond invites residents to join in the spirit of the season with free holiday events at Main Street Station, The Plaza at Main Street Station and the 17th Street Farmers’ Market from 5 to 9 p.m. this Friday, November 30. Both of these events are free and the public is strongly encouraged to attend.
Enjoy the grandeur of one of the city’s most iconic architectural gems and explore the lighted “Cathedral Walk” at the Plaza at Main Street Station. An exhibition of oversized holiday “greeting cards” from metro Richmond area public and private schools will be on display again this year. The giant cards, each created from wooden doors, are creatively designed and painted by art classes and clubs in schools from throughout Richmond. Celebrate the holiday season with lemonade and cookies while listening to the sounds of Motown with a live performance from Bak-N-Da Day at a rocking Holiday Open House at Main Street Station, 1500 E. Main St., from 5 to 9 p.m.
Santa will listen carefully to each child’s holiday wish and pose for free pictures with both children and adults during the Holiday Market at the 17th Street Farmers’ Market, 100 N. 17th St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Warm around the fire pits and enjoy the traditional holiday music from the Irish folk band, Nine Points of Roguery. Complete your holiday shopping list with a variety of homemade and handmade gifts from local crafters. Please consider bringing an unwrapped toy or book to donate to the city’s holiday toy drive.
Event parking is available on the west side of Main Street Station using the Franklin Street entrance for only $2. Additional non-event parking is available within the Plaza using the Main Street and Cary Street entrances.
