Trick or Treat? As Halloween approaches, and children get excited about donning costumes and candy-gathering, Experient Health advises following a few simple tips to ensure the fun holiday remains safe and injury free.
In its latest post in its Live Well, Work Well Blog series on its web site, Experient Health suggests parents choose costumes that fit properly, ensuring they don’t drag on the ground or prevent children from seeing clearly.
Also, “Select a costume that’s fabric is fire proof,” according to the post.
If the costume includes props, “Inspect it to ensure that if your child does fall – or go bump in the night – they won’t sustain and injury.”
Face makeup is part of the fun, but parents and guardians should make sure it won’t run and get into a child’s eyes.
As for safety features around homes this season, homeowners should ensure jack-o-lanterns are far enough from the door to prevent a costume from catching fire.
Consider using battery powered lights or candles vs. an open flame. Keep walkways free of decorations or electrical wires so no one trips.
