The City of Richmond and McGuire VA Medical Center are partnering to host the 4th Annual Veterans and Families Resource Fair on Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McGuire VA Medical Center, 1201 Broad Rock Boulevard. This resource fair is an incredible opportunity for all men and women who have served in the U.S. military, and their families, to connect with service agencies, non-profits, corporate and community partners on information pertaining to employment opportunities, health care benefits and other helpful resources. This year’s event will have several activities for people of all ages, including a game truck, music by the Fort Lee Jazz Band and also Simply Kevin B, an antique car show, and the Central Virginia Mustang Club will again be displaying an amazing collection of custom cars.
Veterans and Families Resource Fair attendees should come prepared to obtain employment as more than 30 employers will be onsite. Event attendees will also be able to meet representatives from more than 40 different agencies that provide care and services to veterans and their families. Enrollment specialists will be on hand to assist new veterans with the enrollment process for health care benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans should bring their proof of military history (DD214).
The resource fair begins at 10 a.m. with a ceremonial program that will feature John Newby II, Commissioner, Virginia Department of Veterans Services, as the keynote speaker. Other scheduled speakers include John Brandecker, Director of the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center; Michelle Mosby, President, Richmond City Council; and Ellen Marie Hess, Commissioner, Virginia Employment Commission.
